Scary what’s happening in India, I stayed at the Oberoi Hotel a few years ago.
Watch and then listen to Zappa’s Joe’s Garage (which should be made into a movie!)

I moved to the Tenderloin. It has a worse reputation than the Red Light District, but it’s only different. Here there are just a lot of homeless people. Often friendly, saying to me, “An even one-hundred pounds. My my girl, you a peach. Happy Thanksgiving.”
Some cool graffiti and dead rats around.
We were staying at the Green Tortoise on Broadway, which is in the Red Light District and is in between Chinatown and North Beach. The street is filled with corporate strip joints and sex toy shops. Doesn’t bother me, as long as there are people around I feel pretty comfortable.
But should I? Our car was [...]
Our rental car was broken into last night, parked on Sansome in SF. The back windows were smashed and the big red suitcase was gone. It was filled with the things I had decided to send home – the mask I made in Tucson, the jawbone Caroline found in Alamogordo, clothing, and my favorite pillow.
We drove south along the cliffs on Route 1 to Stinson Beach. We could feel San Francisco just an hour south. For example, blonde women here dye their hair often, you can tell by the roots. The beach was wide and long.
Plus, check out the close ups I took at the beach at Fort Bragg
You probably don’t, but I do, so…
This is the first of the Ambient Audio Series. “Ambient Audio Series” is a fancy way of me saying “What happens when I turn on a recorder in various every day settings.” Clips include music, noise, and conversation.
Today I’ve added audio links to a bunch of posts. Namely:

We drove into Ashland yesterday. People say that the time to go to Ashland is the summer, because the town hosts an incredible Shakespeare Festival. After being there in November I would say, go to Ashland in the summer.
We stayed at the Ashland Hostel. This summer they housed mostly middle schoolers, and yes…. sticky carpets!
Hopefully [...]
We took Route 101 down the coast of Oregon and discovered the immeasurable Pacific Ocean. We stayed at the Driftwood Motel in Newport and woke up to the sound of waves and a view of the ocean that revealed the curve of the earth.
The motel owner was concerned about the economy, but comforted himself with [...]
We went to Mission Theater on Glison Street to see my favorite cellist (and the only cellist I know) Gideon Freudmann. His music is like electronica meets classical.
The show, called Miz Kitty’s Theater, was a series of awful to excellent vaudeville acts. Gideon was mesmerizing, but only played for twenty minutes and was followed by [...]
